Short Hiking Trails (PR®) in the Massif Central
With routes to suit every ability, the PR® (“Promenades et Randonnées” – Short Hiking Trails) offer walks ranging from 1 to 6 hours. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely stroll or a more active hike, there’s a trail for everyone to enjoy. There are plenty of family-friendly walks for children to enjoy as well. Set off to discover the Grande Cascade in Le Mont-Dore, where a spectacular 30-metre waterfall tumbles beneath striking basalt columns, or explore Lake Pavin in Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise, the youngest crater lake in mainland France, on a scenic hike through the Auvergne countryside. Observe the local wildlife and flora in the heart of the Chaudefour and Fontaine Salée valleys. Take in breathtaking panoramic views as you hike along the ridges of the Sancy Massif.

When hiking, you will almost always be crossing private property. Please respect these natural spaces to help preserve access to the trails. Plan your hike in advance and follow our safety advice to ensure an enjoyable and safe outdoor experience.
