Lake Chambon lies in the heart of a spectacular mountain basin, between the Sancy Massif, the Chaudefour Valley and Murol. Formed by a volcanic lava flow following the eruption of the Tartaret volcano, it covers 60 hectares and is relatively shallow, with a maximum depth of just 6 metres. Dotted with small islands and surrounded by lush greenery reflected in its crystal-clear waters, it is an idyllic place to relax. From the beach, you can already admire the nearby Chaudefour Nature Reserve and start dreaming about your next hiking adventure.
With its relaxed, beachside atmosphere, Lake Chambon is the perfect place to enjoy a swim in one of Auvergne’s beautiful lakes and spend quality time with the whole family.
Enjoy a safe swim on Blue Flag-certified beaches, with lifeguard supervision throughout July and August. Whether you prefer relaxing with your toes in the sand or building sandcastles with the family, these two sandy beaches are perfect for a day by the water.
If you’re looking for more adventure, a wide range of water sports is available, including canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing and pedal boats—plenty of ways to swap relaxation for fun on the lake.
